Master Thinley Norbu & Nima Dorji Debri Thangka Exhibition

In this exhibition, we introduce a very exclusive set of debri that Nima Dorji participated in his very first monastery project with his father and teacher Thinley Norbu and his brother Pema Tenzin when Nimas was 13 years old.

This is the first ever Debri (Tibetan style wall painting) Exhibition in Hong Kong. Debri, also referred as Tibetan Buddhist wall paintings, is very large in size and designed for all areas of monasteries, temples and religious structures in the Himalayas. It is usually a full record of lives of the Buddha, Buddhist deities, religious figures, as well as record of historical scenes.

In this exhibition, we introduce a very exclusive set of debri that Nima Dorji participated in his very first monastery project with his father and teacher Thinley Norbu and his brother Pema Tenzin when Nimas was 13 years old. In year 2002, his family accepted a commission work from Gangtey Gompa and spent for 12 months of days and nights to complete this order. The work was about Vaiśravaṇa, the Great Northern Heavenly Kingto protect the wealth and prosperity of all beings. After the Debri was completed, Gangtey Rinpoche led senior monks a ritual for the Puja of Vaiśravaṇa to bring blessings and elimination of obstacles. When Bhutan was then hit by an earthquake and Gangtey Gompa was damaged. Nima’s family needed to make a new creation for replacement. This Debri has then become a part of his family collections.
