From the 4th quarter of 2022, we announce “Father-Son Thangka Heritage Sharing”, displaying a unique blends of a father and son thangka & mandala pieces and is presented through the Art Experience Gallery.

Father-Son Thangka Heritage Sharing by Master Thinley Norbu & Nima Dorji

 

Nima Dorji, his life is not meant to start from a blank canvas. Since the 14th century, seven generations of his family have passed down a tradition of Thangka painting. His grandfather Master Tshampa Konta Drodril Dorji and his father Thinley Norbu are famous national treasure thangka master in Bhutan and Central Asia.

 

From the 4th quarter of 2022, we announce “Father-Son Thangka Heritage Sharing”, displaying a unique blends of a father and son thangka & mandala pieces and is presented through the Art Experience Gallery.

 

Master Thanley Norbu is a Lhadrip (traditional painter) in Bhutan throughout his life. He taught Nima to draw and paint when Nima was at the age of six.  Thanley Norbu’s thangka arts are everywhere in Bhutan, temples to temples, palaces to palaces.  He inherits the Great Mentang style and it is transmitted to his son Nima under his tutelage.

 

In the Sharing, it will explore the mutual inspiration and influence between father and son, as well as spread the knowledge of the art of thangka painting.  Art Experience Gallery opens Monday to Saturday from 11am to 6pm.
